Yacahts, "Gem of the Oregon Coast," is a small community nestled between the Pacific Ocean and the Coast Range.
Its population is still under 1000 permanent residents, but the area is filled with vacation homes.
The commercial center of historic Yachats is just north of the beautiful Yachats River estuary which has a large sand beach
where, along with other locations, thousands gather on the 4th of July to watch the fireworks over the water.

This is the village in which my parents decided, in 1956, to purchase a small oceanfront site for thier retirement home.
I designed this home for them as my senior project at California State Polytechnic University in 1971.
The next summer, my father and I built their retirement home Turnstone Cove from the foundation up.

After my father died, my mother still chose to live in California, so Lynn and I decided that this is where we would raise our children.
We sold our home, "Sunhollow House," in Burbank, California, and moved here in 1984 and proceeded to become active members of the community.
Here, I opened by one-man architectural office in 1985 and have operated it continuously for almost forty years.
I currently have over 17 completed projects in the Yachats area, mostly custom residences.
Lynn worked for the Lincoln County School District for twenty-six years and is now retired.
Here, also, I was elected to, and served as, both Yachats City Councilman and Mayor.
Lynn and I are now "retired" volunteer members of the Yachats Rural Fire Protection District and South Lincoln Ambulance's, Fire, Rescue, and EMS team.
I retired as a Captain after 16 years of service.
